BogLord's Blog

I found something strange on TikTok today and I can't stop thinking about it.

There's an account called @bog_remembers. Just that. No profile picture, no bio, no other posts. But one video, and it's been there for maybe a week? The algorithm finally showed it to me this afternoon.

It's the Rattlin' Bog. But not like any version I've heard.

The audio is slowed down — really slowed down, almost underwater-sounding. Like the song is moving through treacle. And the SOUND of it... I don't know how to describe this. It sounds OLD. Not like a modern person singing an old song. It sounds like... like a recording from decades ago. Like one of those wax cylinder recordings you hear in museums. There's a crackle to it, and the voice sounds distant, like it's coming through a funnel or something.

The lyrics are just the first verse, sung over and over. "On the root of the tree, there was a branch. A rare branch, a rattlin' branch."

The comments are full of people saying it gives them CHILLS. One person said "why am I crying," and there's like fifty people saying "same." Someone asked "where is this from???" and got no reply. Another person said "this sounds like it's from the 1920s."

I'm thinking it's probably some arty student project, right? Someone with good audio equipment trying to make something haunting and atmospheric. That makes sense. Young people do that sort of thing now.

But I can't find any information about the account. The username is just @bog_remembers. No location, no name, nothing. Just that one video, and it's genuinely unsettling to listen to.

I keep playing it over and over and I can't figure out WHY it bothers me so much.

Slan go foill,

BogLord2002
