BogLord's Blog

The story is everywhere.

BBC Radio 4 did a segment on it. NPR ran an interview. The Guardian published an article with the headline "Irish Folk Song Goes Viral Thanks to 2002 Fan Site." The irony of that headline is not lost on me — a site I almost let die is now the hook for an international story!

I'm still processing it. Every morning I wake up and there's something new. A podcast in Germany. An article in a Japanese newspaper. Someone tweeted that it's become the number one trending song on Spotify in seventeen countries.

The most surreal moment was hearing the words "BogLord2002" said out loud on BBC Radio 4.

My pseudonym. The username I came up with when I was twenty-four and thought it was hilarious. It's now been mentioned in international media. I could've chosen anything, and somehow I'm going to be remembered in history as "BogLord."

Which is actually perfect, now that I think about it.

The coverage is kind and respectful, which I'm grateful for. They're not mocking it or treating it as a novelty. They're genuinely interested in why this song matters, why a folk song from generations ago has suddenly captured the global imagination.

And I think the answer is simple: people want to feel connected. People want to sing together. People want to remember that we're not all alone.

The song does that.

I didn't write it, but I helped keep it alive. And somehow, that's meant something.
