This is probably nothing.

Rattlin' the cat stared at the living room wall for three hours yesterday. Just completely motionless. Eyes locked on one spot, about six feet up, nothing visible there at all. I tried everything — laser pointer, treats, calling her name. Nothing worked. She just stood there, tail swishing occasionally, completely mesmerized.

After about three hours she just walked away and went to sleep.

I thought it was funny. Cat being weird. Happens all the time.

But then this morning I was making tea and I glanced at that same spot and something caught my eye.

There were marks on the wall.

Scratches, mostly. Not deep ones — just surface marks. Could've been anything. Could've been there for ages. But they weren't there yesterday because I'd noticed the wall was clean when I hung a picture up two weeks ago.

I got up close and looked at them properly.

They looked like... well. My mate Pádraig came over and I showed him and he said they looked like ogham. You know, the ancient Irish script. The ones with straight lines and notches. He was probably joking but they do sort of look like that now that he's mentioned it, and I can't unsee it.

I don't know enough about ogham to read them. And it's probably nothing anyway. Probably just scratches. Probably Rattlin' had an itch or something. Cats are weird sometimes.

But it was odd. Just odd enough to mention.

I painted over them. Not because I was scared or anything, just because they looked a bit strange and I wanted them gone.

Rattlin' hasn't gone near that wall since.

Probably nothing.
