Christ almighty, the internet is MENTAL now.
I've been poking around a bit, trying to understand what's happened in the 22 years I've been away from all this. Back in 2003, we had Geocities, AOL chat rooms, basic HTML and an absolute CRAIC of the thing. Now? I'm hearing about TikTok and Instagram and something called "Discord" and "trending hashtags" and I haven't the foggiest.
Is everybody just posting videos of themselves on their phones now?
Also — where did Geocities GO? I swear that was like THE place to have your website. I'd have killed for a Geocities page back then. It was the dream. And now it's just... gone. Poof. Did the internet just decide it didn't exist anymore?
I tried to set up a Facebook the other day because apparently that's what people use now. Got very confused. Couldn't figure out why everyone's daughter or granddaughter was showing up in my suggestions. Ended up abandoning it after about twenty minutes. The layout makes my head hurt.
The STRANGEST thing happened though — I got an email. Actual email, to the contact form on the Rattlin' Bog Fan Shrine. First one in YEARS, I'd say. Not spam either. A real person. They said they found the site through something called "Reddit" (I think it's like a forum? A message board? I'm genuinely not sure) and wanted to know if we still do sessions or if there's a way to connect with other enthusiasts.
A way to connect with OTHER ENTHUSIASTS. In 2025.
That actually warmed my heart, to be honest. Someone CARED enough to find us.
I replied to them saying we're working on getting back to it. Which is both a lie and not a lie, if that makes sense. I don't know what I'm doing yet, but something's shifted. The fact that someone found this place, that people are STILL interested — it means something.
Maybe I need to learn how all this modern stuff works.
Or maybe I just need to get back to what I know — the bog, the sessions, the music.
Slan go foill,
