I've lost three days to TikTok. Three DAYS.
At first I was just trying to find that lad in the bedroom again, right? But then the app started showing me OTHER videos. Other people singing the Bog. There's a GIRL group from somewhere in California doing it as a round. There's a college a cappella group in Dublin who do a version with HARMONIES. I didn't even know you COULD harmonize the Bog like that, but they made it SOUND LIKE ANGELS, lads.
I watched a school group from Cork do a live performance version at what looked like a talent show. They had it choreographed. CHOREOGRAPHED. The song about the rat in the tree has teenagers doing MOVES.
There's a lad in his bedroom in what sounded like Glasgow who did all seventeen verses in forty-five seconds. FORTY-FIVE. Seconds. I couldn't even keep up, but the comments were going absolutely MENTAL. "Fastest bog ever" and "respectable bog time" and I'm realizing there's like... a COMMUNITY around this?
The song is ALIVE. That's the only way to say it. It's not trapped in 2002 anymore. It's not just my site and a handful of old session musicians. There are kids — actual young people — learning it from their phones. Finding it. Making it their own.
Fiona caught me on the app at two in the morning on Thursday. "Uncle Seamus, you need to go to bed."
I couldn't stop laughing. The Rattlin' Bog is a TikTok PHENOMENON and I'm out here discovering it in 2026.
